Boot Camp—During the Transitional Phase, the athletes will have a fun-filled Boot Camp for 1-2 weeks of the training, including: Some conditioning activities in the gym—Outside activities such as hiking, biking, swimming, and other exercise-related workouts. Each athlete will participate in the Physical Abilities Testing to benchmark their overall fitness level. Athletes spend up to half the allotted time assigned to each event working on basic skills for that event, followed by approximately 20-30 minutes of event conditioning. Track Workouts—During the summer months, when the emphasis is on muscle building and predominantly slow-twitch muscle development and endurance, a track workout twice weekly is a great addition to the program. Athletes get out of the gym, get stronger, build endurance, and add a team-building component to their training. Conditioning Relays—Creating fun conditioning relays to replace the regular methods used in the annual plan will bring variety and stimulation for athletes, who will look forward to participating. Team Building Activity—Using team-building activities gives athletes an opportunity to experience the team atmosphere that is not normally available in an individual sport like gymnastics. Be creative and have fun!
