    Life changing.
  • A Fable Stretched Too Far

The Alchemist starts with an interesting premise, a shepherd traveling to find treasure, but quickly turns into a repetitive stream of recycled motivational quotes pretending to be deep philosophy. The story barely moves, the characters feel more like symbols than real people, and every conversation somehow circles back to “follow your dreams” or “listen to your heart.” At times, the book reads less like a novel and more like an overly long Bible verse stretched into an entire story. The writing is extremely repetitive, making a short book feel much longer than it actually is. Fatima, one of the only major female characters, exists mostly to support Santiago’s journey instead of having goals of her own. Some parts of the book also feel outmoded, relying on stereotypes and simplistic portrayals of different cultures. The book reads less like a true novel and more like a stretched-out fable or self-help book. It probably would have worked better as a short children’s story instead of a heavily praised modern classic. Some readers may find the simplicity inspiring, but others will find it shallow, predictable, overrated, and frustratingly preachy.

Most people read books for information But every once in a while you read something that exposes you I just finished The Alchemist And it’s not really a story about finding treasure It’s a story about becoming someone worthy of it There’s a moment in the book where you realize the journey wasn’t leading him to the treasure It was rebuilding him Every setback Every delay Every loss It wasn’t punishment It was preparation And that’s where most people get it wrong They think the path isn’t working When in reality the path is doing exactly what it’s supposed to do It’s reshaping you Because you don’t get what you want You get what you’re prepared to hold And preparation doesn’t happen in one big moment It happens in repetition Daily decisions Daily standards Daily actions that feel small But stack into a different identity That’s why most people never get there Not because they don’t want it But because they won’t stay long enough to become the person who can carry it So if you feel like things aren’t happening fast enough Good You’re probably in the part of the story where you’re being rebuilt Don’t rush it That’s the part that makes everything else possible

This book is packed with nuggets. It invites you into a journey that seems a little mundane at first. Eventually, you are pulled in and it makes you more aware of your connection to everything around you and more importantly, inside of you. Trust me, you need to read this book!

Even reading the sample, I wasn’t exactly sure what this book was going to be, but I didn’t realize it’s a self-help type of book. Nevertheless, I enjoyed it. Easy to read. A wonderful reminder to find the treasures in life and to be optimistic as possible.
