Description

THE #1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLING PHENONEMON

A Katie Couric Book Club Pick • A Jen Hatmaker Book Club Pick

“[A] word-of-mouth smash hit.” The New York Times

“A treasure.” —Hoda Kotb

One spring morning, a stranger named Theo arrives in the small Southern city of Golden. He doesn't explain much about where he came from or why he's there—but when he visits the local coffeehouse, where pencil portraits of the people of Golden hang on the walls, he begins purchasing them, one at a time, and giving each portrait to the person depicted. In exchange, he asks only for the person's story. And so portrait by portrait, person by person, secrets are revealed, regrets are shared, and ordinary lives are profoundly altered.

A story of giving and receiving, of seeing and being seen, Theo of Golden is an unforgettable novel about the power of generosity, the importance of connection, and the quiet miracles that happen when we choose kindness and wonder.

This is one of the most beautifully written books I have ever read. It is prose that reads like poetry, in a wonderful way. The main character reminds me so much of my grandfather, who was “ My Person.” I fell in love with all the characters, and their stories. I didn’t want it to end. Just so beautiful.

I came to this book with no expectations and because of the cover art - I’m drawn to feathers. This book will stick with me. All of the characters have added a bit of spiritual value to my life. I recommend it to anyone who is world weary. I aspire to its grace.

Just beautiful, lyrical and so gracefully and thoughtfully written. I absolutely loved this remarkable book and have given copies to people I treasure. Read it. You won’t regret having done so.

I liked the plot and the characters in this book but it felt like certain parts were very slow and took me a long time to read. I wish that some of the more interesting/exciting bits happened earlier on in the book and not all at the end. With that being said I did like the ending a lot

Like hot tea and honey on a rainy day. Or reading on the porch swing on a perfectly sunny and not too hot Southern morning. I love this book, it was me, a better me. It is hopeful, stirring and twisty. If you like books that cause soul searching and reminiscing, you would enjoy this. This is one of the few books I will be buying a hard copy of.
