Everyone should read this in their lifetime at least once. Beautifully written.

This was a tricky read. One that lasted longer than I would’ve preferred. I wasn’t too fond of the prose. Not so much the dialog. I’m use to that old timey puritan speak found in movies, like The VVitch. My problem was more of the descriptions. I’m a guy who likes to keep it simple. I don’t mind descriptions. However, I don’t need multiple pages of it to describe a single room or something like that. That’s kinda why I like Brandon Sanderson. He does keep it simple, for the most part. I’ll fully admit that’s a “me” problem. I recognize this is a classic and to be fair, when the plot got a move on, I was invested in it. It’s just the prose sometimes held me back. Overall, I did still enjoy this book, but it’s not my favorite classic novel.

I loved this book! It had very good characters, themes, and a good story line. It was a little slow, but still very enjoyable. I also loved getting exposed to older English. Pearl is so cute! Honestly, she was the highlight of the book for me.

I have to read this for school and it’s a bit difficult because most of the things they say are too difficult to understand like “Sayest thou so” or “Speak thou for me!” Like…. what are they talking about?
  • Good ending, but a little slow sometimes

Good story. A bit slow at times, but has a good ending. Good morals and lessons to be learned.

The extra descriptive language lost me sometimes, but it also allowed me to imagine the scenes better. It tells the story of a woman who conceived a child out of wedlock and all the lifelong repercussions that brought.

I wasn’t the most enamored with this but it was a worthwhile read. Maybe I can come back in a few years and this will hit different.
