Overall, the first book of Crescent City was a good read. A decent mix of fantasy, lore, and love interests without being overly romantic.

Dystopian magic! A lot to tale in at the beginning but SO WORTH IT.

Takes a while to get into because of the world building, but the story really twists and turns. I loved the banter/dialogue between characters and I was actually crying at points - that’s how connected to some relationships I felt. Love SJMs work.

Compared to other SJM book series this took a very long time to grab my attention. Once it had me I couldn’t put it down. Just finished and on to the next one. Trying to get these last two in before book 6 comes out for her ACOTAR series.

It was a slow start and information overload, but by the end of chapter 10, the story finally takes off! I’m glad I was patient and gave it a chance. Worth the read!

I absolutely loveeeee this book!! It does take an about 5 chapters to get into it, but once you do—it’s by far such a creative, engaging, and enthralling adventure. I think I might love this book over ACOTAR 🤪🤗✨🌙♥️🗡️🐺🪽🔥🧜♂️🐍🧝🏼♀️🌆🔫

I’m glad I read the reviews that said this book starts slow but give it a chance. Because holy Hel. Never more happy to heed that advice and fall deep, deep into this series. I love Bryce’s character - Maas is a master a kickass female characters. Having read all 3, I understand why the book seems slow at the start but won’t share my thoughts other than to promise that is short lived. Maas is amazing, waiting breathlessly for the next 2 in the Court series and Hels yes a book 4 is coming in this series.

By love still exists
Boy was it hard to dig into this book, but this book and series is such a gem!
I’ve fallen in love with Sarah’s other books and their flow, so it was hard to change my brain as it wanted a book with a familiar flow.
Reading the first few chapters of this first book was the hardest. Right away you’re introduced to high energy and complex characters. In addition, some of these characters die right away. That was when I set the book down and said it wasn’t for me.
One year later, upon hearing that new books are going to be added to ACOTAR and that this series was necessary, I buckled down and read it.
Yes the first few chapters were hard. I kept questioning the author’s decision to kill off such a vital and powerful chapter, but in doing so the deaths of these friends became the backbone of this series.
I am so amazed at Sarah’s ability to write series with different shades of love and adventure. This series is full of love, friendship, and grief. I found myself crying many times as only someone who has experienced loss can truly connect with these characters and their fight for truth and justice.
This book and the rest of the series is jammed packed with the best thrills and reveals. Sarah is a writer who is generous in writing really satisfying plots. I wished i read this soon!
